Making floral arrangements for a wedding can be fun, or it can be just another stress you don’t need. The difference is in the planning. If you look at wedding flowers online or in magazines, there are plenty of examples of flowers which are arranged in jam jars or baskets or simply strewn down the center of a table as cut flowers. These kinds of projects are doable, pretty, and will definitely save you money if you make the arrangements yourself.
Look for sources of flowers and be sure that you have the space to receive them long before the big day arrives. Flowers need to be kept cool and out of direct sunlight. You will need a lot of buckets to store them in and some tools, such as sharp floral cutters to be able to cut the flowers without damaging them.
The basket of flowers shown here uses a chunk of wet floral foam to nourish the flowers. The basket contains garden flowers like hollyhocks, larkspur, and sweet peas. It’s attached to the fence with wire while the pretty tulle garland is draped from post to post and stapled into place.
For even simpler ways to use flowers at a wedding, think about placing colorful flowers in individual water glasses. This is a charming way to decorate that anyone can do. Some flowers that are easy to work with and also inexpensive include daisies, mums, carnations, baby’s breath, alstroemeria, and spray roses.
